- How to improve the appearance of your skin, what ever your age or skin type
Everyday we are being faced with growing evidence that sunbathing and sun beds are not only ageing our skin, but, also putting us at a higher risk of cancer. When UV radiation penetrates skin, it causes changes in the cells that can lead to sunburn, premature ageing, DNA damage and skin cancer. There are two types of UV radiation: UVA is responsible for skin ageing, and UVB causes sunburn. Both are thought to be a major risk factor for skin cancer.
So, if we know it is bad, why do we do it? Because nothing makes you feel better than sporting a great tan; you feel healthy, slimmer and generally better about the yourself.

Clinical hypnotherapy, what it means to me and how it can help me to help you.
As many of you may know, or some of you may not yet know, I am already qualified as a Master Hypnotherapist. I love the ways that we can use these wonderful, and natural, techniques to so quickly change things in our lives that we don’t want. I’ve personally used hypnosis to rid myself of an old phobia I no longer had any use for, and on a more day to day basis I love the deep relaxation techniques, very akin to meditation, that allow me to leave stresses behind and very quickly re-energise!
These hypnotherapy skills have allowed me to also help others who have been having problems in their lives, with great results. So why do I need to do more? For me the clinical hypnotherapy training was a chance to take the time out from life, while learning more about how hypnotherapy can help both me and you. I had a chance to learn, and practice new skills, and to share knowledge with some great hypnotherapists (both the trainers and the other hypnotherapists). It’s a lovely experience too as the training is carried out in a light to medium trance, which allows us to feel deeply relaxed and at the same time learn at an accelerated rate. If you want to know more about the “learning state”, the “now state”, or hakalau, please give me a call. That on it’s own will change the way you look at things.
One of the lovely things I gained was the chance to receive a whole load of hypnotherapy myself, so you can only imagine how relaxed I’ve been and still am. You can only imagine how keen I am right now to work with you on any problems you have.
I’ve learned new techniques, updated a whole load of my usual techniques and got focus on certain areas I didn’t necessarily have before. For instance the whole clinical side of hypnotherapy, from stopping smoking to hypnoanalgesia, has adapted during and since my training being the main focus of the training. The stop smoking techniques that I used to use have changed, and the weight loss has become even more streamlined. One of the greatest things I got from the training was that my therapies are becoming even more adaptive to you, each session becoming even more personalised so you get only the very best from me! It may sound like a sales talk, for which I apologise, but I’m sure you can guess just how enthused I am right now.
So what exactly is the difference between a hypnotherapist, a master hypnotherapist and a clinical hypnotherapist? When you first learn hypnotherapy, just as when you first learn any new skill, you tend to work within a framework. So when you first do a session with someone you may well follow a set script, perhaps gaining the knowledge and confidence over each session to begin to adapt to the changes within the client. They will tend to work within the confines of scripts and set ways. A clinical hypnotherapist will learn further techniques for different inductions, deepeners, and more scripts for carrying out more clinical work with people. A master hypnotherapist has learnt the skills that has made them a hypnotherapist and then learned even more ways to get clients to relax deeply, working in a scriptless way to find the right solution for each specific client, making the hypnotherapy sessions even more powerful for each client.
Now I already knew that each of you are different, and go into trance differently too. I have usually tailored my sessions to make sure that you go into trance as easily and effortlessly as possible. I have learned even more ways to individualise your sessions to have even more great effect on your old problems.
Not only that, but I have been filled to overflowing with new ideas for ways to help you all. From personalised hypnotherapy CDs, tailored to you as an individual, to sessions on how to use metaphors, teaching stories, in your own lives and to help our children learn.
There are so many new ways I can help, and I’d love to hear from you as to exactly how I can help you right now.
Hi Everyone – Just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who supported my mad annual fundraiser for the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund. For those of you that need a reminder of my mountain bike challenge.
We raised a staggering £764!!!!!
Well there are a few things to report following the bike ride on 13th September 2014
On the Saturday of the ride I managed only 90 miles across the South Downs before the dark made it too dangerous to finish the trails on to Winchester and the road stage finish of the 140 miles. Unfortunately on the Sunday injury to my back made it impossible for me to get back on the bike and finish off. Despite that everyone was really kind and paid up anyway.
The good news is that I have now had my knee operation and am recovering well, so it’s back to running soon. The bike is also back in tip top condition and being used for the daily commute!
Secondly, now that all the money has been collected, I am able to announce the winner of the TABLET
AND OUR WINNER IS
(really long pause as in the manner of X Factor, Strictly etc etc etc ….. Still pausing, unnecessarily, milking it …. still pausing)
Congratulations Jenny – See you on Saturday for your presentation and photo call
P.S. Please comment with any crazy fund raising schemes and prospective charities for next year’s efforts!

During the last few months, I have been doing a lot of reading of the recent studies of research into baby/child brain development. Research now suggests that a baby’s brain will not develop correctly without the correct stimulus. Makes sense I hear to say. So what is the most important stimuli? Well hugging, holding, making eye contact, allowing your child to know it is loved, which in turn will allow your child to develop attachment to you and to others, seems to be the biggest and most important. Again, makes sense.
Now I am not a child psychologist, but what I see here on many occasions, are people needing that same stimulus; the need to be held, listened to (with eye contact) and to feel they are cared for, even if they have only popped in for a manicure!
So, what is my point?
Simply, that we are born with the desire/need to be loved and that lasts our lifetime.
Today, as you go about your day, make sure you make at least one person feel loved. Now I am not sure if that will change anyone’s brain development but it will make a difference – I promise!
January is well and truly here. The weather is rubbish, Christmas is over, the decorations are back in the loft and the blues are looming in the wings. So how do we, not just survive, but thrive in January? Well here is our top 10 tips for turning January blues into January rock n roll
1. Put some dancing music on and sing and dance like nobody is watching! Nothing will change your mood quicker than some carefully chosen ‘up beat’ music. In fact you could even compile a selection of your favourite tunes especially for ‘down days’.
2. Give yourself a goal! It doesn’t matter what it is but write it down, tell everyone you are going to do it and then work out your plan to achieve it. Why tell everyone? Because you are more likely to achieve if you know everyone is watching and supporting you. If you don’t want to tell anyone else, tell us!
3. Rope in a buddy to join you – it is much more fun training for a Race for Life, Mud Run, or a Marathon if you have a friend by your side and you can keep each other motivated.
4. Watch a funny film or call a friend who always makes you laugh – laughter really is the best medicine. It actually changes the hormones and cells in your body – REALLY!
5. Book yourself a treat (remember we can always help with that one!) Something as simple is a manicure can really lift your spirits.
6. Grab some old magazines and a few friends then spend a couple of hours having fun making a 2014 Vision Board (follow link for more details)
7. Try and do at least one thing a week that is outside of your comfort zone – you will be amazed how great you will feel once you have done it!
8. Do something nice for someone else. Do it for no other reason than you can. It will be worth it, we promise.
9. Try some exercise. If you aren’t already, do something to get your body moving. It doesn’t matter what level of ability you have, there will be something you can do. Exercise releases endorphins – the happy hormone.
10. Find someone to hug. Even if you live alone you can find someone, the cat, your best friend, the neighbour’s cat or even the neighbour (make it clear you are not taking up stalking though 😉 ) The person you want to hug not around? Then picture them in front of you and you giving them a hug in your mind – it works.
Finally, from the Ananda Healing gang – HAPPY NEW YEAR! May 2014 be your year.
Duncan’s Weight Loss Challenge – Part 7 How did I do after 90 days? The results are in
First of all an apology, it’s been a while since my last update on progress. This hasn’t been because I’ve been slipping, but more because I’ve been upping my training for my mud run challenge.
So, how did I do after the 90 days? Back when I started I set my goals as “by 19th September 2013 to be 14 st 10lbs or less and have a waist of 37 inches”. Did I make it? Yes. Did I do better than that? Oh yes, indeed. I weighed in Tuesday 24th September. I now weigh 14st 3lbs, and have a waist of 36″. That’s a 5″ loss around my waist and 1½st loss of weight, and I now weight the least I’ve been since I was 17 and in the Royal Marines! I believe I would have lost more weight, but I have been increasing my lean muscle by running and cycling.
How has the Body By Vi performed? Brilliant! The Vi has performed wonderfully, providing the needed proteins and sustenance, without too many calories. The weight loss and nutritional balance benefits of the Vi have allowed me to start exercising again, and my fitness levels have also increased dramatically!
On the exercise front, I’m cycling longer distance now (over 50 miles a week), and I can now run 5 miles without stopping! My training for my mud run is in full swing and I’m actually looking forward to it.
Has it been hard? At times, yes. The lure of sweet smelling food has been tough to turn my back on at times, especially when it’s getting on to evening meal time, and there’s instant gratification available. Having said that it has shown me what’s important in my life, and getting slimmer & fitter again has been more important.
Has it been worth it? Most definitely. I’m pretty much ready for my mud run on October 19th, which wouldn’t have even been a consideration without the Vi. While I’m on that subject please sponsor me to help me raise money for my Scout Group at: http://www.burstowscouts.org.uk/mud-run/

Do you want the extended look without the ‘falsies’?
Are you too sporty for mascara?
Too busy for make-up?
Whether you are a sporty girl, a working girl or a busy mum – THIS TREATMENT WAS MADE FOR YOU!
Throw away the mascara and the lash curlers and forget about the old lash perm because this is something else. Gone are the old perming rods which gave the over curled look.
Lashes are lifted onto a silicone pad, thus lifting them from the root. This gives a naturally extended, youthful, open eye look. The tint is then applied to make sure every lash is visible.
There is no sudden ‘droop’ either as it grows out naturally and slowly with your lashes.
In just one hour your eyes are transformed. No need for mascara and, even better, they last for up to 8 weeks
Dramatic results with no need for false lashes!
And the best news? The cost – ONLY £35!
BUT DON’T TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT – Read The Daily Mail’s review -Nicle Mobray of the Mail says “many treatments are billed as ‘making a difference to daily life’ but few actually have. However, here’s one that does’
Waxing is a semi-permanent form of hair removal, which removes the hair from the root, unlike shaving or depilatory cream which remove hair from the surface. Because it removes from the root it takes much longer to grow back giving you a longer hair-free period. Another benefit of waxing is that it generally, especially over a number of treatments, grows back softer and without the harsh, stubbly effects that you get with shaving or creams.
So how long has waxing been around? Around 60BC! The ancient Egyptians developed the method of sugaring (using honey) to remove hair. Egypt at that time priced hairlessness on women as a symbol of beauty and youth. Later the ancient Greeks and Romans also adopted the fashion of hairlessness beauty and developed various different methods of removal including waxing using resin or pitch.
Us Brits didn’t really catch on until 1960s with the invention of the bikini!
More recently though it has become more popular with the gentlemen as well as the ladies. The trend started with sports people and models who wished to show definition of muscle and not to mention the whole sweating, chaffing thing!!
YES, BUT DOES’NT IT HURT I HEAR YOU ASK? NO! Provided your therapist is well trained in removal technique the pain should be minimal. There are different types waxes now available for different areas and they are skin friendly. Waxing isn’t like it used to be.
So now you know a little bit more about waxing!
